Spirit of Manchester Story Week 2021 – Breaking through barriers

17 Aug 2021 - 14:18 by michelle.foster

Are you a Manchester voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisation?

Would you like to share a story of your everyday activity, as part of the 2021 Spirit of Manchester Story Week in September?

We are looking for 20 VCSE organisations to share their stories during the week of 27 September - 1 October.

breaking through barriers

Spirit of Manchester Story Week is a great way of celebrating the new extraordinary everyday work of the Manchester voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. Now in its sixth year, the Story Weeks have captured many stories that have included a community café, a befriending scheme, working with children, and distributing food to people and communities across the city. These are shared widely on social media including by supporters such as Manchester City Council and Manchester Health and Care Commissioning.

The theme this year is ‘Breaking through barriers’. Perhaps you have worked with someone to access the support they need or enabled marginalised voices to be heard. Have you brought people together or broken down barriers to increase service provision? These barriers could be pre-existing or extra ones created over the last year.

In Manchester, there are over 3,800 voluntary sector organisations providing a wide range of services across the city and we will be recording one everyday activity from a range of VCSE organisations over the space of a week (27 September-1 October) which will show the diversity and dedication of the sector in meeting the needs of people and communities across Manchester. We will then publicise this information via our website and bulletins, and on social media using the hashtag #SpiritofMcrStory.

If you would like to be part of this exciting project, please contact Helen at [email protected] or call 0161 834 9823.
