Streetwise Opera has launched Opera Pioneers

Streetwise Opera is announcing Opera Pioneers, a paid programme for people with lived experience of homelessness to explore careers in the opera sector.

Opera Pioneers is a short, mentored programme designed for people with lived experience of homelessness to take their first steps in exploring careers in the opera and wider performing arts sector, specifically in behind-the-scenes roles that support, produce and facilitate the work of an organisation.

Martin Constantine, Artistic Director, said:
“We’re thrilled to launch Opera Pioneers, a bold new step in empowering people with lived experience of homelessness to become the creative leaders our sector needs. This programme brings fresh energy, untold perspectives and a powerful sense of purpose to the heart of opera. It’s about supporting a new generation of changemakers and helping make opera relevant to the world we live in.”

This programme is aimed at people with lived experience of homelessness, at any point of their life, and a curiosity about the opera sector with an interest in building a career.

Opera Pioneers is a practical introduction to key areas of the sector, including: Producing, Marketing and Communications, Fundraising, Front of House, Arts Leadership and Administration.

This is a paid placement. Participants in the programme will be paid at the London living wage of £13.85 per hour for all activity and for attending mentoring sessions. The estimate is that the total fee for taking part will be just over £500.
