Survivors Manchester Volunteer Opportunities

To launch #VolunteersWeek (1-7 June) Survivors Manchester announced the creation of a number of new volunteering opportunities. Over the past 10 years, Survivors Manchester have seen more and more boys and men stepping forward and breaking their silence by asking for support and in response, they have developed a range of services to help. These new positions within the organisation will help to continue to deliver quality assured services that male survivors want. Survivors Manchester actively encourages applications from survivors and those that have used their services.

Expert Advisory Panel Member (x6)
Hours: 7.5 hours per month (8 meetings per year)
Expenses: Travel expenses reimbursed
Benefits: Opportunity to access training; CV development
• To provide ‘expert by experience’ feedback to the organisation that will support the continuous development of services
• To support the organisation in its mission to delivery quality assured support
• To provide those that use the service with a ‘peer’ continuous feedback mechanism
• To provide support and to engage in the promotion of services to those in need
• To challenge the myths and stereotypes that keep many male identified victims/survivors of sexual violence silent
• To break the silence of the sexual violence committed against male identified people

Peer Support Volunteer (x4) – The Safe Room
Hours: 4 hours per week
Expenses: Travel expenses reimbursed
Benefits: Opportunity to access training; Volunteer Clinical Support
• To support the ongoing shared hosting of a peer-support group, The Safe Room
• To provide the organisation with The Safe Room basic administration
• To challenge the myths and stereotypes that keep many male identified victims/survivors of sexual violence silent
• To break the silence of the sexual violence committed against male identified people

Peer Support Volunteer (x2) – Drop In
Hours: 5 hours per week
Expenses: Travel expenses Reimbursed
Benefits: Opportunity to access training; Volunteer Clinical Support
• To support the facilitation of a Drop In service
• To provide the Client Services Lead with support of basic Drop In administration duties
• To challenge the myths and stereotypes that keep many male identified victims/survivors of sexual violence silent
• To break the silence of the sexual violence committed against male identified people

Applications are actively encouraged from male survivors of sexual abuse, rape and sexual exploitation who feel able to work with peers to deliver an important part of the service, actively promoting a healing process.

These posts will include working evenings and some weekends, when required.

The successful applicants will benefit from working with a warm, friendly and supportive team and will undertake challenging and incredibly rewarding therapeutic work with the brave and inspiring service users. Survivors Manchester work hard to ensure that all survivors engaged in supporting service delivery have the right training and ongoing support.
