Syrian Humanitarian Aid Volunteering Facility

8 Jul 2014 - 12:51 by michelle.foster

The conflict in Syria has resulted in a genuine concern and sense of duty to help those suffering by every day people in this country and Manchester.

Manchester City Council recognise Syria is a dangerous place and that there is a duty of care to safeguard residents from harm, so Manchester’s message has and will remain to be that of discouraging people from travelling to Syria and continuing to give to registered charities. However, these cannot be the only messages, so Manchester City Council and GMP have been working with Syria Relief to establish a Syrian Humanitarian Aid Volunteering Facility which will be situated at New Smithfield Market in Openshaw, Manchester from Tuesday 15 July 2014 until the end of October 2014.

This is a positive way in which communities can contribute to those in need and provide leadership and resources at a time of crisis.

Manchester City Council are proud of this in Manchester and see this facility as a real opportunity for Manchester’s residents to help the people of Syria and humanitarian aid charities going to Syria without physically travelling themselves.
