About Us
akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ Youth Homelessness charity. We provide safe homes, mentoring, and support to ensure that no young person needs to choose between a safe home and being who they are. 24% of young people facing homelessness in the UK identify as LGBT (National Scoping of LGBT Youth Homelessness, akt, 2015) and 78% of LGBTQ+ young people cited an absence of family support (The LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness Report, akt, 2021). The charity was founded in 1989 and operates service centres in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and works online through a Digital Service to offer support to young people outside of our four office regions. akt works with over 800 vulnerable young people a year providing both face to face and online assistance.
The Team
This role sits within London or Manchester, as part of the Marketing and Communications team and reports directly to the Brand and Marketing Manager.
Job Summary
We have one 28 hour part time role that can be based from either our Manchester or London office. The salary for this role is £25,316 per year (£31,645 per year full time equivalent).
This is a role with responsibility for akt’s content production, social media channels and website content. The post holder is responsible for day-day channel management including the social media calendar, delivering content via agencies and pro-bono freelancers according to brief, and producing quick in-house content.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop an effective content marketing plan to maintain regular posting, key messages, and brand consistency across owned social channels.
- Manage the social media content calendar.
- Day-day community management of akt’s social media channels (including Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, Snapchat and LinkedIn). Create an approach to out-of-hours and holiday coverage.
- Support the Brand and Marketing Manager to maintain relationships with key amplifiers (mega, macro, mid, micro, nano), working collaboratively to brief & commission content and generate coverage for akt.
- Where appropriate, produce in-house native content for social media, working with apps like Cap Cut and Canva to turn ideas into action at rapid speed.
- Work closely with corporate partners to bring their activity to life on social media - attending meetings and feeding into plans/pitches.
- Protect the reputation of akt on social media and keep best-practice and guidance up to date. Monitor negative comments and inform the team of risks to the akt brand.
- Update the team on all things social & influencer – identifying key opportunities and threats in the digital landscape.
- Work at pace, adhering to strict deadlines, hitting targets for social media posting and remaining agile (turnaround in hours) when trending opportunities arise.
- Commission freelancers and agencies to increase akt’s content capacity, overseeing briefing, project management and project delivery.
- Manage social, content & design requests for organisational stakeholders – either by commissioning external support or by producing in-house.
- Support the Brand and Marketing Manager with reporting requirements, feeding data learning back into content.
