The Sheila McKechnie Foundation (SMK) Campaigner Awards recognise the outstanding contribution that a new generation of campaigners are making towards achieving social, environmental and economic justice here in the UK and abroad.
Winners of an SMK Campaigner Award will receive a tailored package of support to help them campaign more effectively. They will also attend a special ceremony hosted by Channel 4 newscaster and SMK Patron Jon Snow.
The award categories are:
Environment
Global Action
London Social Justice
Shout Out!
Social and Economic Justice
Take Action
Transport
To apply, you need to be:
• based in the UK (although the campaign's focus can be global, national or local depending on the award)
• relatively new to the field of campaigning with potential to develop as a campaigner
• available to take part in a 6-8 month support programme in the UK from September 2013 onwards (average time commitment one day per month)
• in the UK legally (please see the FAQs for more information)
• over 18 years old (or aged between 14 and 18 for the Shout Out! Award, or 60 or over for the Take Action Award)
• based in London if you are applying for the London Social Justice or Shout Out! Award
SMK are looking for committed individuals who are campaigning for sustainable solutions to social, economic and/or environmental issues.
The programme is open to both paid campaigners from established organisations and those campaigning on a voluntary basis. However, the emphasis is on under-resourced and novice campaigners, who, with the right advice and support, could achieve much more.
