Managing Social Media for Charities

Hi again!

There are loads of social media management tools to help you manage your social media accounts. It’s about knowing which ones will work with your social media accounts. I would suggest you set time a side every week, maybe an hour or two to create and organise all your content, and schedule them in for that week. Here are a couple of tools which let you do just that.

Tweetdeck
Tweet deck is a free web management tool that allows you to take control of your Twitter accounts via dashboards.
There are many features to Tweetdeck including:
• Schedule posts- the most popular feature, you can schedule all your posts for publishing right up to the minute you want them to go live
• Unlimited columns- you can set different columns to tell you different things, for example you can set a column to show all the posts you have scheduled , real time news, news feed, notifications, what’s trending etc

Hootsuite
Hootsuite is another web management tool that allows you to manage multiple social channels, and that’s what makes it different to Tweetdeck.
Features include:
• Saving time- instead of logging into multiple accounts, you only have to log into Hootsuite to look, monitor and manage all your social media accounts
• Monitoring- Hootsuite makes it easier for to monitor any trends, or competition you may have. It also helps you to pick up stats, and helps you to see how your audience and engagement has grown
With Hootsuite, you do get a certain amount of features free but then you do have to pay for more advanced features that you want to use.

These are the two main types of social management tools, there are others like Buffer, SproutSocial, Social flow, SocialOomph, most of them do the same thing but can differ slightly just like Tweetdeck and Hootsuite do.

So think about which social media accounts you have and how often you use them. Do some research on the management tools and decide which one works for you.

I do go into more detail about Social media management in the next Introduction to Social Media course, coming on 7 June; you can book your place here-https://www.manchestercommunitycentral.org/training/introduction-social…
