The Maritime Volunteer Service is a recognised national maritime training organisation and a UK registered charity with more than 25 units around the country providing training to nationally and internationally recognised standards, serving local communities especially in times of need or emergency and taking part in resilience exercises ashore and afloat. 
The Maritime Volunteer Service is an increasingly active unit based on the historic and picturesque waters surrounding Salford including the Bridgewater Canal.
The Maritime Volunteer Service operates on all the canals and waterways in the Greater Manchester area, stretching from Bury and Bolton in the North to Stockport in the South, Oldham and Rochdale in the East to Salford in the West. They also operate on the upper reaches of the Manchester Ship Canal and hope to go all the way to Liverpool.
The Maritime Volunteer Service provides training in nautical skills for all members and works to benefit the community here in the Greater Manchester. This training extends to local scouting and other community groups.
The Maritime Volunteer Service also gets involved with local community events such as providing safety boat cover and a control point for the annual Salford Duck Race at the Quays. If you have an event you would like them to attend get in contact.
The Maritime Volunteer Service has members with varying skill sets from complete beginner to experienced instructors and they welcome people into the unit at any level. Even if you do not have boating skills, other skills you have will be transferable to the unit in some way.
