The Fat Beehive Foundation launched to provide digital grants to small charities

fat beehive foundationA new charity, The Fat Beehive Foundation, has launched to support and amplify the work of small charities providing much needed services.

The charity will provide grants of up to £2,500 to help small charities build websites and digital products which will enhance their work and consequently provide social good.

There are 168,000 registered charities in the UK. 97% of these have less than £1 million annual income, but share less than 20% of the money that goes to the charity sector.

Small charities find it especially difficult to fund their websites or digital presence.

The Fat Beehive Foundation has been set up to provide small grants to charities with a turnover under £1 million. This can be used for activities such as the design, build and launch of a new mobile optimised website, an app or to digitise a service.

Leonie Jarrett, Chair of Trustees at the Fat Beehive Foundation said, “We recognise that funding for digital is hard to come by and many grant funders do not provide funding for a website. We also recognise that in a crowded marketplace a good digital presence can increase the good work many charities do - whether campaigning for social justice, improving health and wellbeing or protecting the environment.”

Funding priorities for grants are set by the Trustees each year with input from the Fat Beehive Ltd staff. Current priorities include: Environmental protection or climate change mitigation; Human rights; International development; Equality and Diversity; Social justice / Refugees / Housing; Education; Art and culture; Health and wellbeing and Prisoner rehabilitation.

Applications are currently being accepted online here and the first grants are expected to be made in October 2020.
