Are you a female leader?
Are you from a Black and Minoritised background?
Have you been on the frontline of supporting communities during Covid-19?
The Ubele Initiative are looking for 20 women leaders aged 25 to 65 years from diverse Black and Minoritised communities to collect and distil the stories of your work during Covid-19. The Ubele Initiative hope to offer insights into leadership strategies used, challenges experienced, and opportunities created for and with communities in response to emergency needs.
This project is being supported by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust as Yvonne Field became a Churchill Fellow in 2012. She researched Black community leadership in Atlanta, Georgia and explored how to build sustainable community enterprise development within Maori communities in New Zealand. In May 2020, Yvonne was awarded a Churchill Covid-19 Action Grant to collect the often hidden and untold stories of Black and Minoritised women - in this instance it is about the seminal and ground-breaking work that we have done and continue to do to support our communities during the pandemic.
The Ubele Initiative will be conducting 1 hour, 1:1 interviews during July and August and would like to launch an online magazine towards the end of this year showcasing your community contributions during this extremely challenging period. In addition, they will be commissioning portraits of the women leaders to ensure that the legacy of your work is rightfully recognised, especially by future generations.

The Ubele Initiative are particularly keen to hear from women from the following regions; South East, South West, West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England and North East.
