Greater Manchester poverty charity Mustard Tree has announced it will host an art exhibition to mark the relaunch of the charity’s city centre training café The Olive Branch. The event will exhibit pieces from resident artist Graham Hudson’s Angels series.
Pieces from the series will be available to purchase on the evening, with 50% of the proceeds being donated to Mustard Tree – helping to combat poverty in Greater Manchester. The event will also feature live painting and insights into Graham’s creative process.
About the exhibition
Graham Hudson’s: Angels is an exploration of the celestial and the divine, taking inspiration from deep space photography. The series is an interpretation of our relationship with the unknowable, unreachable and that which is impossible to comprehend.
Graham began painting in 1997. After dealing with homelessness and spending time in prison, Graham first came to Mustard Tree in 2009 as a client. Graham became a voice for first-hand experience of homelessness within the charity, and Mustard Tree’s resident artist. Graham worked as Head of Creative Services, before moving on to become Building and Facilities Manager for the Mustard Tree sites.
As a self-taught artist, Graham gravitated towards, acrylic on canvas, mixed media, and oils. Working with layers and detail, Graham creates atmospheric pieces, which range from the chaotic and explosive, to the calm and meditative.
A word from Graham:
“Mustard Tree gave me the opportunity to paint again when I arrived at the centre in 2009, when I was in desperate need of love and support. I received both, along with much needed forgiveness and chances. As a service user and volunteer, I began and developed a series of Creative Programmes. Creativity and the opportunity to express it have helped changed my life massively, positively and continues to do so”.
The event will be held on 18 August 2022, 6pm-8pm, at Mustard Tree Ancoats, 110 Oldham Road M4 6AG. Tickets to the event are available free of charge, through Eventbrite
