Fréa Renewing Roots engages and supports former residents of Ireland’s Mother and Baby and County Home Institutions now living in the North of England. The programme aims to ensure that former residents and their families:
- Are more informed about their rights and available support.
- Have access to tailored services and guidance
- Experience a strong sense of belonging and connection within the community.
- Feel heard, understood, and supported.
- Feel that their experiences are acknowledged and understood by the broader community.
- Contribute to current and future developments of the programme.
The Oral History Project is a direct response to the expressed wish of former residents to have their experiences of institutions documented and shared, including subsequent impacts on their lives, both challenges and achievements. For former residents it is important to challenge the secrecy, stigma & shame of the past by preserving and sharing this important history of the diaspora, especially to assist in their healing journeys and improve health and wellbeing.
Fréa Renewing Roots are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual or organisation to deliver a pilot oral history project that captures these experiences and explores the potential to share learning and opportunities to further develop the project. The successful applicant will have responsibility for:
- Project set up including ethics, participant information/consent forms/recording agreements/copyright agreements etc
- Engagement and interviews with 10 former residents
- Post Interview Review
- Editing / collating material for online archive
- Exploring archive opportunities for the project
- Working with Renewing Roots team and former residents to plan a showcase event.
