What is Real Change MCR?
Manchester Homelessness Partnership established Real Change MCR (originally named Big Change MCR) in 2016 in recognition that people who are homeless and have rough slept in the City of Manchester often need financial support to overcome the practical barriers to them becoming active, independent members of their community and avoid sleeping rough.
Fundraised donations to Real Change MCR provide homeless people who have rough slept in the city with resources to acquire the practical items they need to build new lives off the streets and which support long-term change.
For example, these resources include: deposits for homes, employment-related training courses, clothes for job interviews, furnishings for new accommodation, household items, travel costs, etc.
How Real Change MCR funding is used
From 1 April 2020, Macc became administrator of the Real Change MCR fund on behalf of Manchester Homelessness Partnership.
The many voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations that are registered members of Manchester Homelessness Partnership can bid into the fund on behalf of people who are homeless and have slept rough in the city that are the organisations’ clients.
Macc processes the applications received from registered partnership applicants and liaises with the fund’s selection panel. If applications are approved for support, Macc liaises with the applicant and transfers the funding upon proof of purchase being provided.
