The racist riots in Greater Manchester in August 2024 have had profound and multifaceted impacts on communities, particularly those from minority backgrounds. Responses gathered from local VCSE organisations reveal a strong sense of vulnerability, emotional distress, and a need for improved support systems. While there have been positive collaborative efforts and a desire for community cohesion, significant challenges persist, including perceived inequalities in treatment of different ethnic groups and inadequate preparedness to handle such incidents.
Macc spoke with Manchester’s Community Safety Partnership to learn about the initiatives currently being delivered and how VCSE groups and organisations can inform this work.
