Arriving somewhere new comes with a long list of things to work out alone. Finding work, learning English, registering with a GP, getting children into school. None of this is straightforward without someone to show the way.
The Henry Smith Foundation funded research with Neighbourly Lab to find out what makes effective welcome support. The Henry Smith Foundation have written about what they have heard, what they’ve learned, and how it has shaped the design of the Welcome for Newcomers fund.
Through the Newcomers Fund the Henry Smith Foundation will fund organisations and partnerships delivering Welcome support to people newly arrived in the UK, whether they're navigating the immigration system or rebuilding their lives after an asylum claim.
Through the Welcome for Newcomers fund, the Henry Smith Foundation are looking to support organisations and partnerships that bring together three interconnected elements of Welcome:
- Specialist support, whether delivered directly or through trusted referral pathways
- Social and community activities that foster belonging, participation and connection
- Work that strengthens local Welcome by improving collaboration between services, amplifying newcomer voices and influencing local systems
The Henry Smith Foundation want to support and help strengthen organisations and partnerships rooted in their communities with access to safe, accessible physical spaces where these relationships can grow.
Through the fund, the Henry Smith Foundation will award 20 grants of £200,000 over three years to organisations and partnerships across the UK.
