How do debt and homelessness reinforce each other?
This webinar will launch new research from the Centre for Homelessness Impact and the University of Bristol examining how financial pressures translate into housing crises, and why preventing homelessness requires addressing debt as a core part of the solution.
The discussion will also draw on insights from the book Debt Trap Nation, which highlights how low-income single mothers and their children in England are being caught in a cycle of poverty, debt, and homelessness created not by personal failings, but by systemic state failings.
Panellists include:
- Sharon Collard, Professor of Personal Finance, Research Co-Director, Personal Finance Research Centre and Co-Director, Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research at the University of Bristol
- Rose Doran, Senior Adviser at the Local Government Association
- Katherine Brickell, Professor of Urban Studies in the Department of Geography and Associate Dean (Impact & Innovation) for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Public Policy and author of Debt Trap Nation: Family Homelessness in a Failing State
