For Sandwich Carers: Discussing research findings and shaping support in Greater Manchester

Date & time: 01 May 2025, 9:00am - 12:00pm
Venue
St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green North, Manchester, M12 6FZ

Join researchers from a team led by Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Greenwich, and 10GM to discuss the findings from their research on sandwich carers and help develop recommendations.

This event is for sandwich carers.
Sandwich carers are unwaged family carers with caring responsibilities across different generations, for instance, younger and older family members. They often juggle family care with employment and with many other responsibilities.

Following on from work led by GMCVO, join researchers from a team led by Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Greenwich, and 10GM (formerly GMCVO) to discuss the findings from their research on sandwich carers and help develop recommendations.

Funded by Health Innovation Manchester, this scoping study investigated the situation of sandwich carers, a group of carers about whom little is currently known.  The Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership Strategy 2023-2028 has emphasised the need to build knowledge and support carers.

The workshops will be an opportunity to:

  • Learn about initial findings from a novel study on sandwich carers in Greater Manchester
  • Discuss and give feedback to the findings
  • Generate recommendations

This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the important contributions that Greater Manchester’s sandwich carers make to their families and communities, to identify possible strategies to raise awareness of the profile of this currently under-recognised group of informal carers, and to be at the forefront of influencing research and practice in this emerging field.

Lunch is provided.
