Who we are:

The Science and Industry Museum is devoted to inspiring our visitors through ideas that change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today and beyond.

It's a story that we're uniquely placed to tell—on the site of the oldest surviving passenger railway station, in the heart of the world’s first industrial city, today alive with innovative discoveries in science and technology.

What are we looking for?

  • Be a good communicator
  • Have a good telephone manner and good interpersonal skills, including attention to detail
  • Be able to use Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook etc)
  • We ask all our volunteers to show inclusive behaviours, valuing everyone’s contribution, and promoting a culture of openness

It would be good if….

  • Have experience of being proactive and working with minimal supervision where appropriate (paid or voluntary).
  • Are familiar with an office setting.
  • Want to gain experience of working in a busy office environment and/or want to learn new skills.

SOME THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Any issues raised in a criminal record check will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • We are legally required to ensure all volunteers from overseas have the right to volunteer in the UK, so please check your visa before applying.

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

This role provides administrative support to the volunteer team as well as being a point of contact for volunteers on site. You will be helping us to keep our volunteers up to date with newsletters and bulletins, also supporting us in processing new starters and answering emails.

The admin office is usually staffed between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday to Friday and the role will take place at some point during this time each week.
