Description of the opportunity:

 

 

Who we are: 

Manchester Central Foodbank provides three-day emergency food parcels for people in need, on a referral-only basis. Sadly 1 in 5 people in the UK live below the poverty line. Manchester Central Foodbank support 1600 people a month.

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

This role plays an important role in supporting the behind-the-scenes running the foodbank, helping with organisational and administrative tasks that will help us more effectively support those in need around the city.

 

Key tasks:

  • Assist in organising and managing food safety and cleaning paperwork
  • Answer queries from members of the public, potential donors and other organisations by taking a shift handling the foodbank phone
  • Keep track of client data, including number of foodbank visits, so we can better support longer-term foodbank users
  • Alongside the operations team, help plan supermarket donation drives, including preparing shopping lists
  • Help organise the foodbank email inbox, including replying to queries when appropriate or forwarding to the relevant staff member
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to respond to new volunteer applications, including sending further information or speaking to interested applicants
  • Undertake other foodbank tasks as appropriate to help with the smooth running of our operation
