Description of the opportunity:

Who we are:

Did you know that Manchester has between 30,000 – 50,000 people who provide unpaid care for a relative, a friend or a neighbour? There’s a huge mix of people from different backgrounds.

Carers Manchester coordinate a network of organisations that support unpaid carers. This is because we know that a single organisation cannot meet the needs of the diverse group of unpaid carers in Manchester. All these organisations work tirelessly to support carers. They provide carers with information, peer support and organise social events. Information and communications about these opportunities need to be accessible, engaging and informative.

What are we looking for?

Carers Manchester is looking for people to support us to design eye catching graphics. These include a range of visuals, for our social media posts, leaflets and newsletters. They are all designed to inform carers of the support available to them.

Will the role suit me? Yes, if you are:

  • A visually creative individual with a passion for design.
  • Experienced in using Canva or similar graphic design tools to create a range of eye-catching graphics.
  • Passionate about sharing information in an engaging and informative manner.
  • Ready to work from a brief and follow brand guidelines to create a consistent style of communication.
  • Keen to work as part of a small and dedicated team.
  • Interested in learning about the support needs of Carers living in Manchester.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and keen to learn from feedback provided by experienced colleagues.

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

  • Learning about Carers Manchester events, and with support, choosing what visuals to create.
  • Designing engaging social media visuals, leaflets and newsletters to help raise awareness of unpaid carers and the support available to them.
  • Working with our Marketing and Communications officer to ensure the graphics you create align with our brand and identity.
  • Developing publicity materials to target communities that are under-represented.

What can Carers Manchester offer me as a volunteer?

  • Induction information and training to prepare you for your role.
  • Regular supervision with the Carers Manchester team to ensure you have clearly defined goals and targets that excite and motivate you.
  • The chance to work alongside our experienced Marketing and Communications Officer.
  • After 3-months of active volunteering we will provide you with a reference, if you need one.
  • Agreed out of pocket expenses to be reimbursed, in line with Carers Manchester policy.
  • The chance to get to know new people by working with a busy and supportive team.
  • To develop new skills and knowledge about communicating and working with adult carers in Manchester.
  • The satisfaction of knowing you will be designing content that matters to people who spend their time caring for others.

Your time

We are flexible to fit around your commitments and this role can either be based at our office in Manchester city centre or completed remotely. All volunteers are required to complete a Carers Manchester induction and you would need to be available to attend regular meetings either in person or online with our Marketing and Communications Officer. These meetings would take place during our core working hours between 9am and 4:30pm.

Requirements

If you choose to work remotely, you will need a computer or access to one for this role.
