Who we are:

Re-engage provides vital, life-enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing.

 

What are we looking for?

This is a flexible, voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around your own lifestyle and availability. As a tea party driver, you will be responsible for picking up one or two older guests from their homes usually on a Sunday afternoon once a month. 

Please note that you must be at least 18 years old to volunteer as a driver.

We are looking for volunteer drivers with the following skills and attributes:

  • Friendly and welcoming
  • Enjoys supporting older people
  • Basic computer literacy (including the ability to use emails)

 

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

As a volunteer driver for Reengage, you will take one to two older adults to and from a social group once  month. The driver will stay at the group and enjoying chatting to people, and enjoy refreshments before taking the same one to two people back home. 

 

What to expect:

  • Driving one to two older guests to a social group each month.
  • Staying at the group to help with conversation and welcoming people
  • Communicating with the group coordinator to confirm which older guests you will provide transport for.

You will drive them to either a host's home or a community venue for an afternoon get-together to socialise and enjoy some refreshments. The parties last around two hours after which you drive them home again.

As one of our valued volunteer drivers, you will receive training from Re-engage, and support and regular communications from your group coordinator. This is a fulfilling and enjoyable role which will enable you to gain valuable experience with a national charity and, most importantly, connect with lonely older people and make a real and lasting difference to their lives.
