Who we are:

The Place at Platt Lane is a vibrant community resource centre in the heart of Fallowfield. The Place is a charity, managed by a committee made up of members of the community. With a focus on health and well-being and improving the lives of all those in the local community, The Place also hosts the local community library. 

 

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who would be interested in supporting us on a regular basis with some general maintenance tasks in and around the building.

 

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

Jobs could include: 

  • Changing batteries in alarms and other devices. 
  • Putting up shelves or notice boards. 
  • Fixing door handles or doing a bit of painting/touching up. 
  • General assembling of flat pack items, i.e. furniture or trolly’s etc. 
  • General small repairs or odd jobs in and around the building.

  • You will receive a full induction and will complete some mandatory training such as Manual Handling & Health & Safety.

  • Opportunities to get involved in other projects led by our community hub. 
  • Travel expenses – Mileage covered 45p per mile up to 11 miles per shift or £5 day rider bus passes are provided for those using public transport. 

 

Please note: Having your own tools would be desirable, however we do have some basic tools and can purchase items for long term use with your input. You will be invited to attend an informal chat with our centre manager where hours and times can also be discussed and agreed.
