Who we are:
The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) bring people together to create, improve and care for green spaces. From local parks and community gardens to Local Nature Reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest; from school grounds and hospital grounds to waterways, wetlands and woodlands; we connect people to the green spaces that form a vital part of any healthy, happy community.
What are we looking for?
Anyone over 16 is welcome to join - this is a great way to spend time in nature, meet new people and help the environment.
We are especially encouraging people to attend who are looking to develop skills while looking for employment. They will be able to learn things such as communication, teamwork, leadership as well as practical skills - great if they are keen on a job in the environmental sector.
We accept referrals from link workers, social prescribers, health professionals and employment support. Activities will be made as accessible and inclusive as possible. We are especially promoting the nature based wellbeing sessions as a green social prescribing opportunity.
We welcome people with additional needs and if a support worker or carer are needed, they are welcome to come too.
What would you be doing as a volunteer?
We are running regular volunteering and wellbeing sessions at Clayton Vale on Thursday mornings. Activities include:
- Practical conservation activities - such as woodland management, pond care, path maintenance
- Wellbeing activities - accessible nature based activities such as willow weaving, nature crafts, nature identification walks
- Sessions run for 2-3 hours depending on the type of activity. You are welcome to come for as long as you are able.
We provide all tools, equipment and brews and biscuits. We ask volunteers to bring water, lunch (if needed), wear weather appropriate clothes that they don’t mind getting muddy and suitable footwear such as walking boots or trainers. Before attending we will need volunteers to complete a registration form which provides information to help us look after their welfare and safety while volunteering with us – we can send this via email or complete it in person when they come along.
All events for this project and others are promoted via the mailing list The Conservation Volunteers
Please join to keep up to date and we will let you know about activities at Clayton Vale including volunteering, wellbeing sessions and Family Nature Fun days.
