Who we are:

Why are we looking for Digital Champions? We believe that there are 3 barriers to getting online – Devices, Data and Digital Skills. Trafford Libraries and Trafford Council are committed to helping give every resident in our borough the opportunity to tackle these barriers, and the chance to volunteer as a Digital Champion helps support that commitment.

 

Within our network of libraries, we are offering:

• a Device Loan Scheme – where residents can borrow a tablet or Chromebook for 3-week periods at a time
• a National Databank distribution point – offering up to 40GB of mobile SIM data
• informal digital skills training – supported by a Trafford Libraries and our Digital Champions.

You can be part of this work to help Trafford citizens and communities gain the skills, confidence and access to get online and interact with modern society. 

 

What are we looking for?

Whether you are in full-time employment and want to share your knowledge, searching for a job and want to build out your CV, or retired with time to spare and enjoy helping others – anybody can become a Digital Champion.

 

What do I need to volunteer as a Digital Champion?

• Basic digital skills
• Be enthusiastic about the benefits of being online
• The want to help others
• Good communication skills
• Patience
• Be confident in sharing your own knowledge
• The tenacity to learn with the people you are supporting

 

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

A Digital Champion supports friends, family, colleagues and people in the community to learn digital skills. You will support local people in libraries at a session that works for you.

 

You will be working as part of a team of Digital Champions, supported by the Digital Inclusion Team and Trafford Library staff, offering informal, basic digital skills support to people who are getting online for the first time. You will be provided with a ton of support and learning resources to help you help your community.

 

We are currently delivering digital support at the following times/locations;

• Stretford Library Tuesdays 12.30 – 14.30
• Sale Library Thursdays 11.00 – 13.00
• Coppice Library Fridays 12.00 – 14.00
• Urmston Library Thursdays 14.00 – 16.00
• Altrincham Library TBC

 

How much time do I need to volunteer?

Approx. 2 hours a week.

Induction Training Date - 29th January  from 12:30-17:00 at Altrincham Library. Ongoing support and training will be offered following your induction.

We are always able to work around holidays and other commitments.
