Who we are:
Pure Insight delivers a comprehensive package of services for care experienced young people, providing access to the highest quality support - via a single ‘front door’, delivered by specialist voluntary sector organisations working together in formal partnership. We are delivering this approach in 5 local authorities, we aim to expand the offer more widely as a series of core and additional services that can be commissioned by councils based on their local context.
Our model responds to huge unmet needs: both in terms of a single dedicated service which offers consistent long-term support; and the lack of specialist services (e.g. mental health; employment support) which can provide intensive, time-limited help through crisis.
What are we looking for?
You'll need to be aged 25+ for this role, and most of our young people are based in Salford - though you don't necessarily need to be.
We offer great training and support, with an 8 week training programme (3 hours per week, Thursday evenings, 2 cohorts per year starting March and September). We offer well trained staff to support you on an ongoing basis - as much or as little as you need. You don't need any experience with young people - just an empathetic and boundaried nature, and a good sense of humour!
What would you be doing as a volunteer?
Volunteer Mentors work on a 1:1 basis with a young person who has left or is about to leave care (children's home or foster care). Together they tackle any issues the young person may be facing and celebrate achievements along the way.
Young care leavers age 16-28 need access to consistent reliable adults in the local community that can offer 2 hours a week to focus on any practical or emotional needs the young person may have.
All young people setting up home for the first time face challenges that are difficult to deal with alone, having a friendly trusted person to turn to can be life changing.
