Who we are

Miles of Smiles is a community transport scheme run by Action Together. Based in Tameside, we support people who struggle to access health and well-being appointments due to a lack of transport. Our volunteer drivers play a vital role in helping residents stay connected to essential services and lead healthier, more independent lives.

What are we looking for

We are looking for friendly, reliable volunteers with their own vehicle to join our team of drivers. If you're a good listener, enjoy chatting with people, and want to make a real difference in your local community, this could be the perfect role for you. A valid driving licence, references, and DBS check are required.

What would you be doing as a volunteer

Picking passengers up from their homes

Driving them to and from health or well-being appointments

Providing a friendly and reassuring presence on the journey

Helping passengers feel safe and comfortable throughout

Logging your journeys and communicating with our team

Attending induction, buddying sessions, and optional first aid training

Volunteers can choose how often they help – weekly, fortnightly, or even monthly. We offer full support and reimburse fuel/motoring expenses.
