Description of the opportunity:

With only 1 in 3 children aged 8 - 18 saying that they enjoyed reading in their free time and with less than 1 in 5 children saying they read willingly every day, our Schoolreaders volunteers are helping to support children with their reading and also encouraging them to engage with books and see reading as something that they enjoy doing.  2026 is the National Year of Reading and we are aiming to deliver 1.5 million reading session in schools, supporting many children and helping to develop a generation of book loving readers.  Could you be one of our volunteers?

Our volunteers do not need any specific skills or prior experience, but they do need to be over 18, have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to visiting their matched school weekly for at least a year, although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time.  All volunteering sessions would be during the school day and would be term time only and you would visit your school at the same time each week.

All volunteers must also have a a DBS check completed but this is at no cost to the volunteer.

Note: We only take volunteers for at least a full year from the date that they start volunteering, although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time.
