Would you like to make a real difference to children’s education in your local community? We are seeking dedicated and community‑minded volunteers to join Old Moat Primary School’s Local Governing Committee. Old Moat’s ethos “All different, all achieving,” reflects the school’s commitment to inclusion, high expectations and celebrating diversity. Old Moat is part of the Changing Lives In Collaboration Multi‑Academy Trust.
School Governors play a vital strategic role, working collaboratively with school leaders to help shape the long‑term direction of the school. This is a rewarding opportunity to support high‑quality education and ensure every child has the best possible start in life.
What does the role involve?
- Contributing to strategic decision‑making and long‑term planning
- Supporting and challenging school leaders to ensure high standards
- Monitoring areas such as educational outcomes, safeguarding, inclusion and wellbeing
What is the time commitment?
- Governors attend four meetings per year (usually held on a Tuesday, 6pm - 8pm) and they may take part in additional panel meetings. Reading documents to prepare for each meeting takes 1-2 hours.
- Occasional visits to school during the school day and to attend school events.
- Completing required online training on appointment and updates each year.
- Governors are appointed for four year terms of office.
Who can apply?
You do not need to have previous governance or education experience. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and are particularly keen to hear from people with transferable skills such as data analysis, project management, or community engagement — but enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn are just as important.
What’s in it for you?
- The chance to contribute to your community in a meaningful way
- Training and ongoing support
- Development of valuable skills and experience for personal or professional growth
This is a voluntary role, subject to safeguarding checks, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
If you’re interested in positively impacting children’s lives and working as part of a supportive team, we’d love to hear from you.
