Role Title: Volunteer Youth Football Coach
Location: Manchester (Local 3G Pitches – Exact location TBC, likely South/Central Manchester)
Time Commitment: 3 hours Every Sunday.
Duration: 40-week project starting June 2026
About the Organisation & Project
The Eastern Sudan Community Association (ESCA-UK) is a registered charity dedicated to supporting the integration, wellbeing, and cultural heritage of our diaspora and the wider culturally diverse community in Manchester.
We have recently been awarded prestigious funding from the Sport England Movement Fund and the National Lottery to launch our new initiative: the ESCA Manchester Youth Active Heritage & Football Project. This project will provide 40 weeks of structured, high-quality football sessions for children and young people aged 5–16 from culturally diverse and socially excluded communities. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteer coaches to help us deliver this fantastic program!
What will you be doing?
As a volunteer youth football coach, you will be the face of the project on the pitch, ensuring the children have a safe, fun, and engaging experience. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in delivering 90-minute weekly football sessions (warm-ups, skill drills, and mini-matches).
- Helping to set up and pack down equipment (footballs, cones, and bibs) before and after the sessions.
- Creating a positive, inclusive, and culturally sensitive environment where every child feels welcome.
- Acting as a positive role model for young people.
- Following the charity’s strict safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
- You will assist the Project Coordinator in maintaining weekly attendance records.
What are we looking for?
We are searching for individuals with the right attitude and a passion for community work in football.
- Enthusiasm & Patience: A genuine interest in helping children develop their physical and social skills.
- Reliability: Commitment is key. We need volunteers who can consistently attend their scheduled weekly sessions over the course of the 40-week programme.
- Team Player: Ability to work well with our project coordinator and other volunteer coaches.
- Cultural Sensitivity: An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, working with children from culturally diverse and minority backgrounds.
- Safeguarding: All successful applicants must undergo an Enhanced DBS Verification (Child Workforce), which ESCA-UK will organise and fully pay for.
What’s in it for you?
We believe in investing in our volunteers. Through our Sport England funding, we offer a highly rewarding package for your time. You will gain valuable experience and have access to a giant network of professionals within the football community. Benefits include:
- Travel Expenses: All reasonable, out-of-pocket weekly travel expenses will be fully reimbursed.
- Career Building: An incredible opportunity to build your CV, especially if you are studying sports coaching, sports science, teaching, or youth work.
- Skill Development: Develop new skills, deliver community events, and become more employable.
- Networking: Meet new people and expand your professional and social network.
- Community Impact: Experience the profound satisfaction of directly improving the physical and mental wellbeing of children in Manchester.
