Administrative Volunteer
Location: Science and Industry Museum
Hours: 1 day per week (4 hours)
Start Date: August 2027
End Date: ongoing


ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role provides administrative support to the volunteer management team as well as being a point of contact for volunteers on site. You will be helping us to keep our volunteers up to date with newsletters and bulletins, also supporting us in processing new starters and answering emails. Includes keeping our spreadsheets up to date and volunteering handbook. Helping keep volunteers up to date via team emails, helping them stay connected via events and trips away.
The admin office is usually staffed between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday to Friday and the role will take place at some point during this time each week.

In this role you’ll be:
•Data entry, electronic filing, photocopying and other general office duties.
•Making and receiving phone calls.
•Scanning and filing of volunteer documents.
•Maintenance of database.
•Any other duties deemed appropriate by the volunteer team.
•As a volunteer you’ll learn about our Health and Safety Policies, procedures, and risk assessments, allowing you to take care of your own personal safety and that of others.

•Have a good telephone manner and good interpersonal skills, including attention to detail
•Be able to use Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook etc)


It would be good if….
•You want to gain experience of working in a busy office environment and/or want to learn new skills.
•Have experience of being proactive and working with minimal supervision where appropriate (paid or voluntary). We ask all volunteers to show inclusive behaviours, value everyone’s contribution, and promote a culture of openness.


Dates for the Diary

✓ Pre Induction Chat– Monday the 10th of August (onsite) or as a back up Wednesday the 12th (remote only) - Come in for a friendly chat about the role to help find our admin volunteers. Mandatory part of application process.
✓ Induction – Monday the 17th of August (Mandatory for new volunteers)
✓Full Training to follow

•If successful we’ll request a basic criminal record check. We’ll arrange and process this for you and will cover all the costs. Any issues raised in the check will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• To volunteer in this role, you must be {18} or over.
•We are legally required to ensure all volunteers from overseas have the right to volunteer in the UK, so please check your visa before applying.
•SMG is unable to act as a sponsor organisation if you do not have a visa that allows you to volunteer.
