Description of the opportunity:

Schoolreaders volunteers listen to children read individually for an hour or two each week on the same day and at the same time.  They will help the children to develop their reading and comprehension skills and also help the children to engage with books.  Reading for pleasure at a young age has a significant impact on a child's future and our volunteers help to support this and are an asset to the schools they are matched with.

Our volunteers do not need any specific skills or prior experience, they just need to be over 18, have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to visiting their school weekly for at least a year, (although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time).  Volunteers will also need to have a DBS check completed, but this is at no cost to the volunteer.
