Northmoor Homework Club is a free project for children and young people aged 8-16 which provides a safe, nurturing space for children to do their homework and to take part in games and arts and crafts afterwards. The homework club is an informal, relaxed environment but we still maintain the strictest of Safeguarding procedures and expect the children to adhere to the agreed boundaries.

Main Tasks

• Welcoming children, ensuring they sign in and fill in a registration form if it’s their first time
• Helping with homework
• Supporting and ensuring safety in arts and crafts and other extra-curricular projects
• Ensuring children behave according to the behaviour rules
• Being fully aware and alert to any Safeguarding incidents that may arise

Skills, Experience and Qualities needed 

• Over 18
• Good listening, communication and English Language skills
• Some knowledge of various academic subjects
• Polite, friendly, helpful and patient with the confidence and skills to enforce the behaviour rules
• Able to adapt to the varying needs of the children
• To work well as part of a diverse team with a commitment to Equal Opportunities, treating all individuals equally and with respect
• A commitment to Confidentiality, Safeguarding and GDPR standards

Because the project involves volunteering in a regulated activity with children we require all volunteers to have a DBS check. This is done for free after the taster session.

We recommend you start with volunteering for one 3-hour session a week; 

Monday 3:30-6:30pm

Tuesday 3:30-6:30pm

Thursday 3:30-6:30pm

The project is only on during school term time (as stated by Manchester City Council). 

Induction and Training provided 

You will receive a full volunteer induction and introduction into the project. You would not be expected to fulfill all aspects of the role immediately but to learn over time. Within your first month, you will need to complete free training on safeguarding and GDPR, which we will provide. You can work on the training during your volunteering session.
