Volunteers' Week Stories: Jamal

Jamal, 37, from Syria, volunteers with Syrian Community Council.

My volunteer role is in the Department of Advertising and News, where I design and write for publicity and advertising on social networking sites. I have been volunteering since April 2022.

I initially got involved to support friends of mine in the Syrian Community Council to serve our Syrian community and the society in Manchester generally. I decided to volunteer in order to help the community in Manchester, especially Syrians, in many areas, including integration into society, education, work, laws and general guidelines.

Volunteering is a humanitarian act. I am happy when I provide services to all segments of society in need of assistance. I have gained experiences from volunteering in my life by getting to know new people, cultures and customs, getting to know their problems and finding solutions for them. It’s a nice feeling when you help and people thank you.

I advise everyone to volunteer in order to help the community and in order to integrate into the community and learn and practice the English language and a lot of important information and laws about the community in Manchester. Volunteering brings happiness, joy, and pleasure by serving and helping others.
