What is social media and what’s with all the hype? ...

Social media has become part of everyday life and a fundamental way in which the world communicates. There are over 2.34 billion social media users worldwide, frankly, if you don’t have a social media presence, you’re missing out!

And yes, there are lots of questions swimming about, about whether social media is worth your time and effort, especially in our sector, where time and resources are extremely valuable and limited. It doesn’t matter what kind of organisation you are, in my opinion, social media is a vital part of getting your organisation out there and the way your organisation is run.

Let’s get back to the basics.

What is social media?
Social media is an online tool or site that is based on interaction with users and visitors. Social media is not just a passing trend; it’s a massive structural shift in the way we communicate, and whether we like it or not, it is happening right now, and it is here to stay.

One of the things that puts people off even considering social media is that there are so many platforms out there; it’s difficult to know which one is right for your organisation. This is where you have to break everything down, and really think what is it that you want to achieve.

Over the next few blogs, I am hoping you will be clearer about how you can use social media to its full potential and which channels are right for your organisation.

 See you in 2 weeks!
