Macc Working Agreements

Purpose: To be shared at the start of Macc meetings/workshops/training/events, to set expectations for participants.

Respect

Being respectful of others – listening, keeping an open mind.

Keep in mind the dance floor and balcony – if you usually speak, try to listen and if you usually listen, try to speak.

One mic, one voice at a time – take space and make space – no one knows everything, together we know a lot.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality – don’t share without permission.

We want to create a safe space to share, what is said in the room stays in the room.

However, if the meeting is being recorded, please be aware that we will record and share what is said in the main room but not in the breakout rooms. You will be informed beforehand if this is the case.

Present

Be present, please don’t use your phone or check emails unless it is urgent – your phone will not miss you if switched off for a bit.

Challenge assumptions – your own and others – be more aware of them.

Speak from your own experience – try not to speak for others without their permission to share their story.

Taking care of yourself

Take a stretch/comfort break as needed.

Recognise that we can’t be articulate all the time, but we can be conscious of our impacts.

We know language can be a clumsy thing – So long as you’re coming from a place of being respectful, if you don’t express something in quite the way you meant it, don’t panic.

Curiosity

Retain an open and curious mind; ask questions to understand; check for meaning.

Be curious, open, respectful.

There are no daft questions – all questions are welcome

Remember that none of us are smarter than all of us – if you have an idea or a question which isn’t quite clear yet or not quite ‘finished’, that’s OK – it could be the spark of inspiration which someone else in the room is waiting for.
