Join our team as Live Well Manager
We’re recruiting a Live Well Manager

The Live Well Manager will provide strategic oversight of all of Macc’s Live Well work, leading the Live Well Team and acting as Macc’s senior relationship holder with Manchester City Council and other public sector partners on Live Well. Working alongside the Chief Executive and within Macc’s wider influencing and sector leadership work, the Live Well Manager will ensure that the VCSE sector’s knowledge, relationships and community trust are embedded at the heart of Live Well Manchester.

The role also connects to Greater Manchester’s Live Well programme through Macc’s role within 10GM, the network of Greater Manchester’s Local Infrastructure Organisations.

This is a new role and a new team, which means there are no established ways of working to step into. We're looking for someone who's excited by that opportunity and confident enough to help shape the role and the team as they go, rather than needing things fully mapped out in advance.

Salary: £38,945 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week. Flexi-time system with core hours 10am-3pm
Location: St Thomas Centre but job offers some working from home flexibility
Contract: Fixed term to 31st March 2030
Deadline: Rolling recruitment. Applications received by 26th October 2026 12pm, will be reviewed together.

We’re recruiting a Head of Finance

We're looking for someone who combines real technical expertise with a genuine commitment to the values that drive Macc's work. This is a senior role requiring both depth of knowledge and the ability to use it in service of an organisation whose purpose is to strengthen communities. That combination matters as much as the qualifications.

You'll need a strong financial background – ideally as a qualified or part-qualified accountant with experience in the charity sector, including a working understanding of restricted funds, grant finance and Charity SORP. Technical knowledge alone isn't enough: you'll need to be able to translate complex financial information into clear, accessible advice for managers, trustees and others who aren't finance specialists. Making the numbers understandable and useful is a core part of the job.

Salary: £45,975 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week. Flexi-time system with core hours 10am-3pm
Location: St Thomas Centre but job offers some working from home flexibility
Contract: Permanent
Responsible for: Finance Lead and HR Lead
Qualifications: Qualified or part-qualified accountant (or equivalent demonstrable expertise in charity finance)
Deadline: Rolling recruitment. Applications received by 30th October, 12pm will be reviewed together as our 2nd round.

We’re recruiting a Policy and Influence Manager

We're looking for someone who understands the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector from the inside – its strengths, its frustrations, and its potential to shape the decisions that affect communities in Manchester. You'll need experience of working in or alongside VCSE organisations, with a genuine understanding of the challenges they face and the difference they make.

The fundamental aim of this role is building the conditions in which the sector's voices become stronger, more diverse and more influential. What matters most is your ability to read a complex environment, identify where influence is possible and support others to act on it.

Salary: £38,945 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week. Flexi-time system with core hours 10am-3pm
Location: St Thomas Centre but job offers some working from home flexibility
Contract: Permanent
Deadline: Rolling recruitment. Applications received by 9th November, 12pm, will be reviewed together.

Charity Commission for England and Wales
Why the Charity Commission Chair is right about infrastructure

Speaking at the Charity Commission's Annual Public Meeting on 15th October, Chair Dame Julia Unwin argued that charities are essential to strong communities and sustainable growth, and that the organisations supporting them are under serious strain. She was clear that infrastructure is not an overhead. It is the most cost-effective way of giving every charity and community group the advice, skills, volunteers and connections it needs, much as any business relies on accountants and lawyers. She asked funders, government and charities able to pay for support to take a long view.

Community Services Support Fund

The Community Services Support Fund, led by colleagues at Women’s Aid, comes as part of the package of support for survivors affected by the government's decision to release prisoners early (known as Early Release Scheme). It is known that many survivors will choose to seek help from local specialist organisations they already know and trust. Women’s Aid will therefore administer this fund to help specialist VAWG organisations meet additional demand. Grants will be available of £400 for every eligible organisation that is supporting an eligible survivor. There is no limit to the number of eligible survivors an organisation can claim for, the £400 is per survivor supported.

Greater Manchester Resilience Forum
Inclusive Resilience Pathways

Inclusive Resilience Pathways was developed to support more inclusive approaches to emergency preparedness, response and recovery. It brought together VCFSE organisations working alongside marginalised communities and resilience practitioners responsible for emergency planning, response and recovery, to better understand how emergencies affect different communities and identify practical ways to strengthen inclusive resilience practice. The project explored how both groups experience the resilience system differently, where their experiences overlap, and how stronger relationships and pathways between them could be developed. Two practical resources were developed through the project that are useful and realistic for people working in often pressured environments with limited time and capacity.

DBS rule change September 2026: New rules for volunteers

From 1st September 2026, an important DBS rule change came in that affects organisations that use volunteers and some other supervised workers to teach, train, instruct, care for or supervise children. The change removes the existing supervision exemption from regulated activity with children. This means that being supervised will no longer automatically keep an otherwise qualifying role outside regulated activity. For many organisations, particularly schools, childcare providers, sports clubs, youth organisations and charities, this means it is important to review volunteer roles and existing DBS checks.

Kindred House: LGBTQ+ Extra Care Housing Scheme

Could you help someone find the home and care they need in the UK’s first LGBTQIA+ Extra Care housing scheme? You might already know that the Council, in partnership with Great Places and LGBT Foundation, are building the UK’s first LGBTQIA+ majority Extra Care housing scheme in Whalley Range. The idea behind the Kindred House development is to provide appropriate accommodation for older LGBTQIA+ to live and enjoy their later years with dignity and respect, along with some care needs met on site – and without the worry of discrimination in later life. It is expected that the homes will be completed in Summer 2027 and people are already being invited to join a waiting list and to receive more information.
