The Aspiring Professionals Programme at the Independent Office for Police Conduct

29 Apr 2021 - 14:51 by michelle.foster

iopccThe Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) oversees the police complaints system in England and Wales. IOPC investigate the most serious matters, including deaths following police contact, and set the standards by which the police should handle complaints. IOPC also use learning from their work to influence changes in policing. IOPC make decisions entirely independently of the police and the government.

IOPC have a paid four-week summer placement aimed at individuals interested in working in the public sector. The project aims to support the development of workplace skills and gain professional experience, whilst working on a community-focused project.

Starting in late June, the IOPC Aspiring Professionals will work as part of a team on an equality project that will help the IOPC to engage better with their diverse communities. They will also gain experience of working in the public sector and receive guidance that will help with future applications to permanent IOPC positions.

The IOPC want to offer the programme to a group of diverse candidates, of all ages, who can bring a variety of life experience, unique skills and cultural knowledge into the organisation. The IOPC particularly invite applications from those undergoing career breaks, from care leavers and from Black and Asian candidates.
