BMS Wellbeing CIC – wellbeing workshops Trafford and East Manchester

15 Dec 2023 - 14:24 by michelle.foster

BMS Wellbeing CIC was created based on ever growing concern relating to poverty within Greater Manchester.

BMS Wellbeing understanding youBased on significant feedback from their past work and partner network has emphasised the need for an organisation catering to those unable to afford treatment. This feedback informed the design and implementation of the whole vision of BMS wellbeing CIC. Through the delivery of various Wellbeing initiatives were seen to connect individuals with non-medical support in their community. In Greater Manchester, approximately 620,000 people live in poverty cannot afford private mental health help. The decline in life expectancy in the Northwest in 2020 also underscores the need for accessible support. This situation was further exacerbated by Covid 19 combined with lockdown.

Through the formation of BMS Wellbeing CIC the best way to help individuals with their mental health is to increase their understanding of how it impacts them in their life whilst also giving them the education and resources to make better informed choices.

BMS Wellbeing’s mission is focused on positively influencing, inspiring, and enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of others so they can do the same for others within their community, particularly in the borough of Trafford and East Manchester.

  • To deliver health and wellbeing sessions to the community to equip others with the ability to make better health related choices. For example, reduce the use of alcohol, improve physical health. For example, community centres, youth clubs, (face to face, online)
  • To give individuals the ability (increased knowledge, understanding and confidence) to engage in brief interventions with others (friends, family, public) so they can make better lifestyle choices.
  • To bridge the digital divide between individuals through the delivery of digital literacy workshops focusing on the use of digital literacy resource ‘Learn my way’ and digital literacy related qualifications (level 1 and level 2).

The main objectives of BMS Wellbeing CIC are focused on the mental health and wellbeing of those most vulnerable in the community. In their experience, by enhancing the mental health of vulnerable individuals, BMS Wellbeing CIC contribute to a healthier, happier, and more supportive community. In addition, this positive change can create a ripple effect, leading to increased social cohesion and a more vibrant, resilient community that benefits everyone.
