Bupa UK Foundation Caring for Carers Funding Programme

15 Jul 2016 - 10:46 by michelle.foster

Across the UK around 7 million people are unpaid carers, supporting a family member or friend who is older, disabled or seriously ill. It is likely that the majority of people will take on caring responsibilities at some point in their lives. Unpaid carers make a vital, hidden contribution to the health and wellbeing of the nation. However, carers are often under significant pressure and many find that caring can take its toll on their own health.

The Bupa UK Foundation is looking to fund practical projects that will help unpaid adult carers to support, manage and improve their own health on a day to day basis. The Bupa UK Foundation are specifically interested in projects which will address the needs of:
• carers who are juggling work and caring responsibilities
• 'sandwich carers' looking after both young and old
• the increasing number of elderly people who are caring for other elderly people

To apply for funding your organisation should have experience of supporting or focusing on the needs of unpaid carers. Within your application you will also be asked to provide evidence that the carers you plan to work with want and would value the support or service being proposed. All projects are expected to be delivered within 12 to 18 months.

Grants of £15,000 and under
Through the smaller grants programme The Bupa UK Foundation want to support organisations to deliver clearly defined projects that will have a direct impact on the health of unpaid carers.

Larger grants
For larger grants The Bupa UK Foundation are interested in innovative ideas to meet the health needs of unpaid carers, including proposals to develop, test or pilot new products or services or to extend an existing service to reach and engage many more people or a group with specific needs.
