Call for participants: Inquiry into insecure work in Greater Manchester

A participatory worker inquiry is being launched in Greater Manchester and this is an invitation for people to become part of the inquiry panel, which will be formed from a small group of people with experience of insecure work. This panel will work together to develop ideas for addressing issues relating to insecure work. The inquiry is independent and collaborative, and is being coordinated by Dr Ceri Hughes at the University of Manchester.

The inquiry panel is open to people in Greater Manchester who are currently in, or have previously experienced, insecure working conditions – includeng zero-hour contracts, temporary or agency work, casual or seasonal employment, and low-paid self-employment. The main way that inquiry panel members will contribute is through participating in one-to-one interview (by phone, online, or in person) and/or a series of group workshops. This participation is voluntary and will be supported by a thank-you payment of £25 per hour, along with support for travel and other related expenses if needed.

The inquiry aims to gather workers' experiences, develop ideas for action, and share the findings and recommendations with those in a position to bring about change. It will take place over the next 3 months. Anyone interested in finding out more can contact Dr Ceri Hughes at ceri.hughes@manchester.ac.uk or by text/WhatsApp on 0750 162 5064.
