Macc recently managed the latest Spirit of Manchester Fund round of grants which focused on organisations that support people with the cost of living crisis. We will be sharing stories in August to show the impact of these grants and the wide range of projects that they supported. Today, we have the story from Cede Foundation:
"Cede Foundation provides intervention support to people experiencing multiple deprivations and our poverty reduction programmes combine the charity’s ‘Recycling and Reuse’ strategy to ensure that no item which could transform life and give hope is wasted. As the current cost of living crisis deepens, many more families are being supported by Cede Foundation through the ‘Rescued Food’ initiative. The Cede Foundation ‘Rescued Food’ initiative collects surplus food from local Tesco and Booker stores and redistribute them to needy families. One of the people to benefit from the Cede Foundation’s ‘Rescued Food’ initiative is Mrs. Josephine Ngunga.
Mrs. Ngunga lives in Levenshulme with her three children and has solely supported and provided for them since the death of husband in 2008. Due to her current health challenges, which have also affected her mobility, she is unemployed and depends on Universal Credit, which is not sufficient for her families needs. She expresses her profound appreciation for the regular food items she receives from Cede Foundation which provides her with essential food items as well as a variety of other necessities on a regular basis, as that has helped to reduce the impact of the current cost of living crisis on her family.
She said "I am very grateful to Cede Foundation for the food items you bring for my family every week and we have regular bread and vegetables. This has reduced the financial stress on my family."
Cede Foundation, like many other organisations, has also felt the impact of the cost of living crisis. This has resulted in a significant increase in demand for our services, particularly the ‘Rescued Food’ initiative. Our greatest challenge is the lack of funding to continue to provide these services and thanks to the organisers of the Spirit of Manchester Fund for the award of £1,000 to support the ‘Rescued Food’ initiative."
