Directors wanted at Barlow Moor Community Association

Barlow Moor Community Association (BMCA) are currently recruiting new directors and looking for specific individuals who can strengthen their board by bringing new skills and ideas.

Directors act much like a school’s governing board and are volunteers who help oversee the running of an organisation and ensure policies and best practice is followed.

Barlow Moor Community Association Limited is an established and growing organisation at the heart of the community in Chorlton. BMCA was born back in the 1980s with their first centre opening in 1991. BMCA became a charity in 1994 and in the last few years have become to a charity limited by guarantee.

BMCA manages a purpose built community centre on the Merseybank estate serving the wider local community. BMCA’s brand new building opened in February 2014 and is well used throughout the week. BMCA offer provisions for all ages and have teams running early years playgroup, children, youth and over 60s groups. BMCA also have a community development team as well as a learning hub which runs advice and guidance, job clubs as well as various courses including personal finance, IT, ESOL and much more.

The building is also used by partners and external groups offering further services to the community including a credit union, councillor surgeries and groups for those living with various disabilities as well as offering space for meetings and private functions.

BMCA are looking for dedicated and skilled directors who can help continue to shape, develop and grow the organisation as they look to provide further and better opportunities for those in the community.

BMCA need individuals who are passionate about their work and who are able to offer expertise and help improve services as well as the running of the organisation.

Directors will need to be available for monthly board meetings, an annual away day, communicate with managers and other directors as well as offer their skills to specific areas of BMCA. All directors are required to complete a DBS check as well as register with Ofsted and companies house once elected and before starting duties.

BMCA are especially keen to enrol directors with experience in management, HR, the charitable sector, community work, fund raising and finance.
