Fair Tax Mark launches small business competition

28 Nov 2014 - 10:47 by michelle.foster

The Fair Tax Mark has launched a competition to find 25 small businesses in five categories to win the chance to receive a free Fair Tax Mark accreditation.

The categories are as follows:
• Book shops
• Coffee shops
• Record Shops
• Co Ops
• Other small businesses

Tax avoidance is often discussed in relation to the lost revenue and the public services could have been funded. Fair Tax Mark feel that it is equally important to highlight the distorting impact that tax avoidance has on businesses, this includes:
• Businesses exploiting their size and geographic location to gain an unfair competitive advantage.
• Local independent businesses finding it ever-harder to compete.
• Lack of fair competition is bad for businesses
• Lack of choice and struggling high-street shops is bad for consumers.

Between now and January, the Fair Tax Mark will invite small businesses to complete the a short online application form. Eligible entries will be entered in to the competition with the winners in each category to be selected by an expert panel.
