Free BSL Courses from Manchester Deaf Centre

Manchester Deaf Centre are offering a 10-hour beginner course in BSL, funded by the Manchester Adult Education Service. The course is designed for individuals who have little or no previous knowledge of BSL.

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for a place, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 19 or over
  • A resident of Manchester with one of the following postcodes: M1, M2, M3, M4, M8, M9, M10, M11, M12, M13, M14, M15, M16, M18, M19, M20, M21, M22, M23, M40 (Salford and Trafford postcodes are excluded)
  • Unemployed, on benefits, or on a low income
  • Have little or no previous knowledge of BSL
  • Interested in building informal skills (non-accredited, community-learning enrichment-style course)

Course details

  • Course title: 10-Hour Beginner BSL
  • Course description: A short and accessible course ideal for learners with little or no prior experience in British Sign Language.
  • Dates and times:
    • Wednesday, 24th September 2025: 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm
    • Thursday, 25th September 2025: 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm
  • Location: Manchester Deaf Centre
  • Number of Places: 15 available for each class
