Getting on Board exists to change the face of trusteeship. We want to help people from all walks of life become trustees. Getting on Board do this by working with charities to change their attitudes towards diversity and by working with aspiring trustees to better equip them to secure and thrive in a trustee role.
People of colour represent only 8% of trustees, compared to 14% of the population. In the largest charities, that falls to 6%.
To address this, Getting on Board have asked charities and others to fund bursary places for people of colour to come on our flagship Charity Board Leadership Programme. You will have the opportunity to meet some of these charities if they are looking for new trustees. Getting on Board asked for this type of funding because they know people of colour can be overlooked for professional development opportunities and investment.
Please note that the bursaries are specifically for people of colour who have not been trustees before, and who know that they want to become a trustee. Participants will become trustees in the next 9 months and you will need to put several hours aside for applications and interviews, on top of the course contact time.
