Grants to support BAME-led organisations affected by Covid-19

29 Jul 2020 - 15:59 by michelle.foster

BAME grantsGM BAME Network, supported by GMCVO, have launched an emergency grants programme to support small (income under £10,000) GM BAME led VCSE organisations and communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Between July and December 2020 GM BAME Network will be giving out a total of £225,000 in grants.

The grants are funded by Comic Relief and the National Emergency Fund in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Atiha Chaudry, Greater Manchester BAME Network said: “We are delighted to be successful in our funding bid to Comic Relief and excited to be working to get much needed funding to BAME community organisations. These communities have been disproportionately impacted by this pandemic and we have been extremely worried whether they will survive this storm. We have targeted our funding to small BAME community organisations with low levels of income because these organisations make up a large proportion of our sector, have insufficient resources to sustain themselves and yet provide the most effective support deep into our communities.”

The grants will fund new activities and services as well as the additional costs of adapting existing services due to COVID-19. The grants will also help counter the loss of fundraising income directly caused by the pandemic.

The first stage, a rolling micro grants programme, is now live. Grants of £50-£1000 will be awarded on an ongoing basis between 27 July and 31 October 2020. Decisions will be made within 3 weeks. A second stage will be launched in September.

An online information and support event is being held on 18 August to help small organisations apply. To register for this event, click here
