Do you want to get paid for your time and experience?

Breakthrough UK, a leading disabled people’s organisation, is recruiting disabled people and people with long term health conditions to join an exciting new project starting in Manchester very soon. This work is funded for three years through a grant from Manchester City Council.

The Manchester Leaders with Lived Experience will be a 'go-to' group where key organisations from across public services and businesses will come to get your advice about being more inclusive. There are ten places on the group.

The group will be a key part of the Manchester Disability Collaborative. This is a partnership of organisations across the City of Manchester who are working to promote disabled people’s inclusion.

Together, you and other members of the project will use your lived experience of disability or long-term health conditions to ensure that Manchester’s services and businesses do not create barriers to disabled people.

What will you have to do?

  • Attend at least 8 of the 10 project meetings that happen each year
  • Share your lived experience
  • Work with other disabled people or people living with long-term health conditions as a team
  • Help organisations to understand what makes things difficult for people and why
  • Help organisations to work on improving things over the next three years
  • Develop your leadership skills through involvement in the panel
  • Support other members of the group to speak up and grow as leaders
  • Join in with communications about the panel’s work
  • Keep track of what progress is being made – speak up if things don’t change!

In return, you will get:

  • £75 for attending each meeting
  • All your access requirements met
  • Transport to and from the meetings which will be in the City Centre
  • Support to take part in the project
  • Your own development plan to help you get skills and experience as you work on the project

Breakthrough UK particularly welcome applications from disabled people facing racial inequalities, young people and from people who have never done anything like this before. These are freelance positions. You will be responsible for getting advice on tax and the impact on any benefits you get.
