As part of the visit, the MP, (who is leading a ministerial working group which will seek to identify gaps in available provision and make recommendations on how coordination across departments can be improved), met with Shelley Roberts, CEO of Home-Start Manchester, along with Rebecca, a young mum who has been receiving Home-Start support, and her volunteer Barbara.  Rebecca shared her story as how as an asylum- seeker fleeing domestic abuse, she had been receiving Home-Start support, and the difference it made to her life. Andrea Leadsom at Home-Start Manchester

Speaking on News Night, who were filming the visit, Andrea Leadsom said: "The importance of Early Intervention and how you nurture a child in the first 1001 days of its life can completely transform their life chances. I remember that feeling of helplessness, not knowing where to turn to...We need to have a cross- Whitehall commitment to promoting the range of services that families need to access, as opposed to prescribing the way in which they need to be provided.... More support for breastfeeding, more support for reducing parental conflict in pregnancy, providing more support for mental health problems in the perinatal period. So, looking at the services we want to provide is the stage we are at now."

Shelley commented: “I’m really enthused by Andrea’s visit to Manchester and her interest in investing in the Early Years. It was a pleasure to share with her some examples of the impact our work has on children and families. I’m incredibly proud of the family and volunteer who spoke to Andrea about the relationship they have developed and the way Home-Start’s support has changed both their lives for the better. To be recognised by Andrea as an exemplary early years’ service in Manchester is very humbling.”
