Two local mums have set up a new postnatal group to help families in Adswood and Bridgehall. Ellie Thouret and Donna Hawkyard of The Parenting Collective have designed the group in collaboration with local families to make lives a little brighter for new parents.
The new group launches on 2 July at Adswood Community Centre and will be held monthly. Parents of babies 0-3 months old are invited to enjoy fun activities designed to strengthen their bond with their babies, such as music and rhyme, baby massage, and baby yoga. Volunteers will be on hand to make hot drinks, and trained supporters will demonstrate baby slings and carriers.
Ellie and Donna hope that mums and dads coming to the group will feel supported and more confident as new parents.
Mum of three Ellie Thouret says: “Our goal is to provide the kind of support that was not available when we had our children. Over half of new mums experience ‘baby blues’ and we think local support and wellbeing activities can really make a difference. We want to offer a welcoming environment for new parents, and help them enjoy positive activities with their babies.”
The Parenting Collective CIC is a group of local mums providing peer support to families in Stockport, from pregnancy to toddlerhood. They want to reduce the loneliness and isolation that often comes with becoming a parent, by creating a community of supportive and non-judgemental parents. They offer drop-in groups, baby sling information/hire service, and cloth nappy library.
