Want to become a volunteer to help adults with their reading?

Manchester Adult Education Service (MAES) are running a six week course aimed at people who want to become volunteers to help adults improve their reading skills. It will provide you with an opportunity to discover how to help others learn to read.

What will be involved?
The course will run for two half days per week for six weeks. One half day will be spent volunteering on a one a one to one basis, working with adults learning to read.

You will also attend a one day half session per week where you will be given practical help and the knowledge to help adults with their reading. On successful completion of the course you will be supported to run a small reading group once a week.

What qualifications/skills do you need?
You need to have a good standard of English (GCSE or equivalent level). You also need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Every Friday afternoon, 13 November-18 December 2015, 1.30pm-3.30pm

This is your opportunity to find out more about the course, whether it is the right opportunity for you and for MAES to answer any questions you may have. At this session you will need to bring proof of your identity e.g. passport or driving licence and proof of your address e.g. council tax bill.

Voluntary Work
MAES has centres throughout Manchester and has links with libraries and voluntary/community groups. Your tutor will work with you to identify the right class/centre for you to volunteer at.
